For the Love of Fashion: A Look at Celebrities’ Wedding Dresses of 2017

We all know to look out for Hollywood stars for the latest fashion trends, and their weddings never disappoint us either. Most stars are always dressed by ultra high-profile designer gowns, and it’s hard not to obsesses over those fabulous dresses. You know what they say, “what’s impossible to reach, is possible to admire from afar” and that’s exactly what we’re going to do. Feel free to drool, swoon or even fantasise yourself wearing Miranda Kerr’s custom Dior dress with blue birds and a few mice dressing you up for your big day, as you pledge your troth to the founder of Snapchat. Well, a girl can dream, right?

Here are our favourite wedding gowns that got the chance to be in direct contact, and we’re talking skin-to-skin, with our favourite Hollywood and K-drama icons of 2017 (so far). Brides-to-be, get ready to take down some notes!

Serena Williams had three outfit changes – an Alexander McQueen ballgown complete with a cape for the ceremony and then the tennis champ changed into a white beaded, feathered Versace dress for the reception. After dinner, she decided to mix things up with a similar Versace ensemble with a short skirt and a pair of Nike sneakers. The total cost of the wedding was said to be $1M excluding her 3 outfits.

The wedding dress, itself, went viral and had several features on Vogue and other fashion magazines. Inspired by Grace Kelly’s, the Australian supermodel wore a Dior long sleeved satin ball gown with appliqued lilies and a classic flyaway veil to match. Director of Dior, Maria Grazia Chiuri described the colour of the satin skirt as ‘whipped butter’. Miranda Kerr’s Dior haute couture gown won over many women’s hearts and crushed many men’s as she weds CEO of Snapchat, Evan Spiegel, in her buttery goddess of a gown.

The Duchess of Camrbidge’s sister kept thinhs classy in a white laced Giles Deacon creation that cost a whopping  £40,000. It was the tight bodied cape-sleeves that made the wedding dress a show-stopper especially with her Maidenhair fern tiara by Robinson Pelham and a pair of Manolo Blahnik shoes with pearl details.

Sexy Sports Illustrated model tied the knot in Tuscany, Italy to Astros star Justin Verlander after his World Series victory. Kate Upton stunned a long sleeved white Valentino dress with a long train, and a sheer lace bodice. She kept things simple with her dreamy blonde locks under her fingertip veil. Also, Upton’s bridesmaids dresses were well-received by the public for it’s light mauve coloured frocks with a layered skirt and off-shoulder sleeves to complement the bride and the Tuscan wedding.

World renown R&B singer, and the Fast and the Furious actor secretly got hitched on Valentines Day. Social worker, Samantha Lee wore a dazzling diamond headband and diamond earrings to complement her pink satin razor front dress with a ruffled hem and a studded neckline. It was simple, elegant and so not cliche – a definite win!

 

Ronda Rousey and Travis Browne

Its not easy dressing an MMA cum Olympian medallist but Galia Lahav did her dress just right with a sleeveless, beaded sheath curve-hugging dress with a low-plunging neckline. What topped it off was her no-makeup make up look which seems fitting for a UFC fighter. Her makeup artist even claimed that she only had: foundation, eyeshadow and just lip balm on as it best suits her face due to her natural athlete glow.

The former Drake & Josh star married his longtime girlfriend during a ceremony in Malibu, California in June. The film editor stunned in a gorgeous ivory strapless gown with white floral prints that suit the bohemian, rustic weding.

Co-stars of Orange Is the New Black, Samira Wiley and Lauren Morelli got married in Palm Springs in March and opted for matchy-matchy white outfits designed by Christian Siriano. Yup, this is a pair of double-whammy wedding outfit that astounded many fashion lovers. Samira Wiley’s pure white dress looked stunning against the colourful confetti-themed wedding. While Samira’s silhouette took the form of an elegant ballgown with an empire waist and off-shoulder sleeves, Lauren’s jumpsuit was intricately embellished with a sexy caged bodice accompanied with a long cape. This might be the most coordinated wedding ensemble we’ve seen so far!

 

Penn Badgley and Domino Kirke

Former Gossip Girls actor wedded his long-time girlfriend, Jemima Kirke’s (of HBO series, Girls) sister at an intimate event at the courthouse back in February. They then had another wedding at the Domino’s mother’s house where the bride stunned two looks: a vintage white lace gown with a dramatic train, and later, a bohemian-inspired beige dress and accessorised her hair with a diamond sparkled headband that had shapes of petals and crescent moons. Not many would like her untraditional boho number at first sight but what if we tell you fashion expert, Zac Posen approve of the dress. Would that change your mind?

The two lovebirds wed in an Old-Hollywood-inspired wedding in Los Angeles. Maria Cahill’s gown was a classic Grace Kelly-vibe dress that she picked out the first day on her hunt for a wedding dress. The Enzoani dress boasted an A-line style, beaded Alencon lace and corded Chantilly lace with a soft tulle skirt and scalloped hem lace. The bride mixed things up a bit by flaunting her long tresses of relaxed waves under the long veil.

 

Song Hye Kyo and Song Joong Ki

Co-stars of Descendants of the Sun wedded in November and was the wedding of the year in K-drama land. Dior’s new artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuru, who also designed Miranda Kerr’s wedding dress, personally designed the dress for Song Hye Kyo. On the right, is a sketch of the Korean star’s dress that was originally a black velvet piece from Dior’s winter collection. The bride’s ballgown was a fairytale come to life – the custom long-sleeved A-line with a vintage bodice was a traditional yet show-stopping number. Also, rumour has it that the bride’s $12,200 hand bouquet was said to cost more than her ring.

One of Korean’s famous celebrities of all time had an intimate wedding at a Catholic church with his long-time girlfriend of 5 years. Kim Tae Hee wore a beautiful tea-length lace dress with a scalloped neck and matched it with a plain fingertip veil. The simple, modest look matched the intimacy of the ceremony.
